Market Goals: Our goal this year is to make the Gorge Grown Farmers’ Market more viable for local farmers, accessible for more residents, and a reliable place where community members gather together and fill their fresh food needs for the week.
What's Fresh: We will post information online on what local food farmers’ market vendors and other farmers in the region have available each week for the benefit of restaurant chefs, food buyers, and other consumers unable to make it to the farmers’ market but interested in connecting with farmers and fresh, Gorge grown food.
RECIPES: Check out some recipe suggestions submitted by Callie Jordan on how to prepare mulberries. For mulberry salsa and more visit http://www.fiery-foods.com/dave/mulberries.asp.
Gorge Farmers' Markets: Gorge Grown has been connecting with the other farmers’ markets across the Gorge so that we may work cooperatively and use our collective knowledge for the benefit of local farmers and consumers. We’re hoping to assist each other in recruiting vendors and in the future alleviate gaps, such as too little asparagus for sale in Cascade Locks and too much in Wasco County. In time, we’re hoping to have a model market in place and a rapport with farmers in the region so farmers’ markets can spring up in every Gorge community, from Husum and Stevenson all the way to Maupin.

GORGE GROWN HUSUM FARMERS' MARKET:
Gorge Grown is happy to be working again this season with the Husum Farmers' Market, now in its second season!
The Husum Farmer's Market will open for its 2nd wonderful season in early July. The Market will run on Saturdays from 9am until noon, in the grassy field adjacent to the Whitewater Cafe in Husum (across the road from the Husum Hills Golf Course along Hwy 141 in Washington just south of Husum).
Husum Farmers’ Market organizers seek farmers, winemakers and other food producers interested in participating in this market. The market will accept craft vendors as well. The Husum Farmers’ Market will begin in early July and run until early October from 9 a.m. to Noon every Saturday. Water and power will be available on-site.
Booth fees are $10.00 or 10% of the booth income per week (whichever is less), and an extra $5.00 for a large appliance such as a refrigerator.
To make this event a success, organizers need to hear from individuals interested in vending, regardless of the size of your farm/garden or prior market experience. If you would like to participate in the Husum Farmers’ Market this summer, contact Krissy or Marc. Local residents and summer recreation traffic will enjoy access to fresh produce and other foods, occasional music and wine tasting, and more as part of this new farmers’ market.
The land surrounding Husum bears tasty huckleberries, mushrooms, fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Vineyards produce exceptional winegrapes and winemakers turn them into great wines. Local farmers raise alpacas, cows, goats and other animals, which provide meat, wool and other goods.
Organizers hope to create access to this local bounty at the Husum Farmers’ Market. Express your interest today. For more information, contact Krissy Biernacki at krissy@blueskies.ms or Marc "Hooba" Fitzgerald marc@killerburgers.com.
