You've likely heard the buzz about Community Supported Agriculture farms that are sprouting up all over the country. The Gorge is no different! With so many vibrant farms plus community minded folks calling the Gorge home, it comes as no surprise that there are a variety of Community Supported Agriculture Farms, or CSA Farms, to choose from! Gorge Grown is hosting a CSA Open House to spread the word about all the fantastic CSAs in the Gorge!
What is a CSA Farm? Community Supported Agriculture is a way to buy your farm fresh produce share for the growing season up-front. For your CSA Membership, you receive a box of beautiful local food each week throughout the season. The share and the price vary from farm to farm, but the CSA farm is a fantastic way to support your local farmer AND get delicious local food. Many farmers give special treatment to their CSA members, because they respect that CSA member-farmer relationship so deeply. CSA memberships help farmers THRIVE!
"C.S.A. stands for community supported agriculture, an awkward name for an elegant scheme. C.S.A. farms are a little like magazines: you “subscribe” to them, on an annual or monthly basis, and in exchange for a fee..., you receive a weekly box of produce, which you can pick up either from the farm or from a drop-off location or, ..., have [it] delivered to your door."--Michael Pollan
Want to learn more? Come to the CSA Open House on Tuesday May 8!
Farms to have confirmed their participation to date include: Little Farms, Wildwood Farm, Hood River Organics, Casa Verde CSA, J&K Growers, and Seed to Table. We expect even more will confirm later in April!
